Patrick Kurtz is a private investigator, criminologist, author, editor, and publisher. He grew up in Thuringia and now lives with his wife Dr. Maya Grünschloß and their two children, Ian and Enlil, alternating between Germany, Barcelona (Spain), and the Isle of Skye (Scotland).
As a native “Römer” and grandson of Central German local historian Hilmar Römer, Patrick Kurtz studied Provincial Roman Archaeology, Psychology, Comparative Literature, and German Studies at the Universities of Oxford, Leipzig, Marburg, and Hagen. In addition to publishing Aidan Johnstone’s memoirs Livingstones Mahnung, he released the scholarly volume Von Ovid, Grass und Tintagel Castle – Wissenschaftliche und Essayistische Ausflüge in die Europäische Literatur in 2012.
Patrick Kurtz has also pursued studies with varying intensity in areas such as Prehistory; Religion and Mythology; the origin, development, and nature of the universe and life (with a focus on biochemistry, especially DNA); Consciousness; Philosophy; Police Violence; Climate Change; and Democracy, Demagoguery, and Disinformation in the 21st century. His interests encompass both mainstream science and alternative approaches, reflecting a global and interdisciplinary perspective. Other passions include music (he is a multi-instrumentalist), Rishi Yoga, PADI-certified scuba diving, and various sports.
Driven by a natural aptitude for combination, deduction, and analysis, he completed a private detective training in 2012/13 and has worked professionally as an IHK-certified detective since. His investigative focus lies in criminology, applying human-ethological insights.
Additional qualifications in investigation and security include the IHK examination under § 34a GewO, commercial firearms certification under § 7 WaffG, certification in life-saving emergency measures and defibrillator use, VDS intervention training, and even elevator operator certification under TRBS 3121.
Languages: Patrick speaks German, English, and Spanish fluently, with conversational or basic skills in Italian, French, Catalan, and Greek. He also holds the Latinum and is familiar with the Hebrew alphabet.
